Dealing with extreme stress can be an unusual landscape to navigate for many different reasons. The most important thing to consider is how it applies to that particular person. Every person has their own individual way of how they respond to severe trauma. While much is known about the reactions, how they will become manifest in a person is not known. Through communication and showing empathy our friend and family can be very helpful and make a positive impact. Children don't have the ability to understand what is happening within them, so may only show symptoms. A child in this situation might show signs of extreme withdrawal, exhibit aggressiveness, or have physical and other symptoms of stress reactions. Whether a parent needs to be involved to help their child deal with the stress can depend on the situation.
